About the role
Gap Inc. is looking for a Senior Creative Technologist to help us scale our design system, “Stitch”, which helps our entire organization build great experiences across Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, and Hill City. The Stitch team manages each brand's digital style guide, a React component library, related documentation and standards, and internal education as well as advocacy for the design system.
The Stitch team is seated in a Centralized UX organization which has been growing rapidly over the past few years, within Gap Inc. we are part of the Digital organization, supporting all brands. The Stitch team is dedicated to E-Commerce and Omnichannel web experiences, working closely with Engineering and Product Management. In this role you’ll join the team on-site as a dedicated Stitch member, you’ll help continue to build the system, the Atomic parts in system, plus its standards. You'll then be involved with integration with the E-Commerce platform and help oversee governance of the React component and Sass libraries. You'll contribute documentation both within repos and on an internal site accessed by the entire company. As a Developer, you have a passion for contributing to a larger digital ecosystem — collaboration and well-structured code are your super-powers! You have expertise pairing with UX Designers, Engineers and Product Managers and an ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
What you'll do
Collaborate with the Design System and E-Commerce product teams to strategize and execute on the scaling, health, maintenance and governance of the front-end framework
Participate in ideation sessions; bring a thoughtful perspective to a cross-functional working group
Build prototypes to validate concepts and further learning; pairing with other Developers and Designers
Build and integrate React web-components and Sass to a living component system
Communicate development decisions with UX, Marketing, Dev and Product Management stakeholders
Develop and champion solutions that are intuitive, powerful and delightful
Develop clear, concise code with well-written documentation for Developers, Designers and other stakeholders
Contribute to the construction of a new documentation site which will serve as a reference to product and brand teams leveraging components in designs or code in the E-Commerce experience
Who you are
BA/BS in Computer Science, Graphic Design or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years’ experience with front-end development (Portfolio or link to website required)
Understanding of Object Oriented principles (Analysis and Design)
Experience with web development testing and automation tools
Understanding of UX principles and best practices
Keen eye for UI design details
Systems thinking and understanding of Atomic Design is a plus
