Gap

More than the clothes we create, Gap Inc. is defined by its people. Meet some of the talented people who make Gap Inc. great. #WeAreGapInc

What do you do for Gap Inc.?
I work with the Global Visual Merchandising team at Gap to create the Flagship Presentation Book. I work with the Field Teams to bring seasonal campaigns and strategy to life in our Flagship locations.

What inspires you?
Music, Dance, Friends, Family. I love living in NYC and walking around different neighborhoods seeing “Street Style.” Social Media has opened doors to all kinds of outlets for some of the things I love most in life.

Style personality:
Urban Street Wear. I love details on my clothes - rip & repair, paint splatter, destruction, and asymmetrical lines. I love to mix high and low pieces together. And I love good accessories (a great bag, shoes, bracelets).

Go-to outfit:
Camo pants, a flannel wrapped around my waist, denim or leather jacket, oversized T-shirt and sneakers.

All-time favorite piece of clothing:
A vintage burgundy leather jacket I found when I lived in Chicago 15 years ago. I still wear it today.

Last purchase:
Tickets for an upcoming vacation.

What you’ve learned from customers:
Gap customers are loyal and we hold a special place in their hearts no matter what age they are. Each time I meet someone new and I tell them I work for Gap, they always share their “favorite gap commercial” with me.

Favorite Gap Inc. moment:
I had the chance to choreograph a Gap “Flash Mob” for the Field Leadership Conference (where all of our field leaders across Gap gather together) a few years ago to Lady Gaga "Born This Way." Looking out from the stage and seeing all of our field leaders from Gap and Gap Outlet dance to my choreography was an absolute dream come true. The team was able to get footage from around the globe of store teams submitting “their version” of the dance in their home stores or communities. It was the perfect mash-up of my two passions in life.

First job:
I was 15 and worked at Big Apple Bagels in Springfield, IL.

Epiphany moment:
When I see the light bulb go on in someone’s head after a walk-through in a store, or after teaching a workshop. Visual Merchandising isn’t always easy to teach is takes skill to be creative, understanding of trend, fashion, brand aesthetic, and the business. Seeing someone else “get it” makes me smile.

Always puts you in a good mood:
Hearing my favorite Janet Jackson song, FaceTiming with my niece and nephew, talking to my partner, or catching up with friends.

Theme song:
It’s a tie between "All for You" and "IF" by Janet Jackson.

Something people don’t know about you:
My other passion besides Gap is dance. I'm a professional hip-hop dancer and choreographer. I have had a chance to work with a few artists - Britney Spears, Janet Jackson, Mary Mary, Be Be & Ce Ce Winans to name a few… In some spare time I teach Janet Jackson themed dance classes here in NYC. My secret dream is to dance in or choreograph a Gap commercial :)

What makes you most excited to come to work in the morning?
Everyday I share my passion and love for Visual Merchandising with the people I work with! Working with different teams of people that are passionate about this brand, and driven to create the best and biggest stores in our fleet, bringing the campaigns to life is such a treat for me.

What makes your job unique?
It feels full-circle for me working with the Flagship stores. I have either worked in, managed, or opened all the Flagships in North America. Growing up in the field and now working in HQ for a few years, I understand the ins and outs of what it takes to bring the “Big Picture” to life. I help connect the dots when I have different conversations between the Field and HQ. If I could have written my dream job, this is it!

Why Gap Inc.?
I started with the brand in 1999 as a part-time sales associate. I've had the chance to work in different markets and in different roles all over the brand. The people are one of the things I love most about this brand. We all share the common goal and vision to bring the stores to life. Whether I've worked overnights, opened new stores, prepped for visits or helped with an installation at a Flagship, the people I work with make this job “worth it”.
