About the role
We’relooking for a Product Safety Manager responsible for managing Gap Inc.’s beautyand personal care safety and regulatory compliance program. In this role, you’ll be responsible for performingsafety and claim reviews of new product developments and communicating compliancerequirements to internal business partners and vendors. You’ll track keyregulations and contribute to policy-making to ensure that Gap Inc. iscompliant with applicable federal, state, and international regulations.
You’ll engage and establishpartnerships across the Brands (Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, Athleta) tocommunicate, collaborate, influence, and implement safety and regulatorystrategies that positively impact our business worldwide. This role is criticalto the success of our private label personal care business so we’re looking fora highly-motivated individual who is flexible and able to work in a fast-pacedenvironment.
What you'll do
Performssafety and labeling claim reviews on new product developments to assess productsafety and claim substantiation needs, thereby supporting business growth inexisting and new global markets. May attend or lead cross-functional statusmeetings with business partners and vendors to stay current with new globaldevelopments.
Supports laboratory testing execution on behalf of the Gap Inc.brands to ensure products meet company safety and quality standards.
Testing includes microbiological, clinicaltrials, claim substantiation, stability, production release, out-of-specificationinvestigations, etc. The Product Safety Manager effectively communicates safetyfailures across the supply chain and may also provide risk assessments forquality issues during testing.
Researches and tracks federal, state, and international regulationsimpacting personal care products and provides strategy recommendations to ensureproducts comply with the most current domestic and international cosmetic regulations(FDA, Health Canada, etc.). Also performs market research and industrybenchmarking to support new product developments (competitor shopping, testingsamples, etc.).
Contributes to compliance manual updates, harmonized protocols,standard operating procedures, and other publications as needed.
Provides training to vendors and business partners on the testingprogram and protocols. Monitors vendors to ensure that required compliancedocumentation is received.
Tracks customer complaints and appropriately escalates to SeniorManagement, Legal, and Brands as needed.
Represents Gap Inc. at Personal Care Product Council conferencesand committee meetings and provides regular updates on industry initiatives.
Performs related duties as required by management which mayinclude special projects or organizational initiatives.
Who you are
Proven ability to think strategically, creatively, andanalytically. Ability to work with both qualitative and quantitativeinformation.
Ability to effectively partner and motivate across functions andwith outside vendors. Solid organizational skills and ability to influence andresolve differing viewpoints.
Preferred - Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a personal care,cosmetics, or over-the-counter drug (OTC) company with knowledge of FDAregulations. May also consider candidates with other consumer product safetyexperience (apparel, hardlines, toys, etc.). Knowledge of global regulations, ingredients,clinical testing, and claim substantiation methodology is also beneficial.
BS / BA degree preferred.
Demonstrates research, technical writing, and communication skillsin English.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel,Outlook, SharePoint, etc.
