About the role

We seek an experienced paralegal to join a fun and collaborative legal team. You will be responsible for supporting the company's growing patent and global trademark portfolios and related work, with attorney oversight. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter and team player who wants to develop expertise in patent and trademark law.
This role will report into the Brand Services team and work with business partners across the company and outside counsel. Coordinating communication among these teams and stakeholders will be an important and challenging responsibility of this role.

What you'll do

  • Manage Gap Inc.'s patent portfolio docket, including identifying deadlines and ensuring timely completion
  • Manage the invention disclosure docket, including communicating with inventors regarding the submission process, ensuring forms are complete, and identifying and escalating bar dates
  • Coordinate patent review committee, including scheduling, creating meeting agendas, taking minutes, tracking filing decisions, reporting out to inventors and other participants, and following up on action items
  • Track licensing and other agreements as well as documentation for ongoing negotiations
  • Prepare/oversee preparation of US trademark filings; instruct foreign associates regarding trademark clearance, filing, and prosecution, opposition and cancellation proceedings, and infringement matters
  • Track down and organize information and documents for patent and trademark applications, responses to office actions, and other filings
  • Review counsel advice, assess risk/benefit, and recommend course of action to in-house attorneys. Proactively identify and escalate potentially significant legal, business, and reputational risks

Who you are

  • 3+ years relevant experience in a law firm or law department
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, seek guidance and escalate appropriately, effectively manage time and projects, and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and succinctly both orally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and resourcefulness
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with strong sense of accountability, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Solid command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • College degree required; paralegal degree/certificate preferred
