About the role

The Director of Denim Wash will have a deep understanding of the Gap brand, its target customer, product and aesthetic and work in collaboration with the Vice President and Directors of Mens’ and Womens’ Denim Design to set the overall global wash direction for the denim seasonal product line. He/She manages and directs the wash development process, including sending out and managing wash targets, fabric finishes and wet and dry processes for each season. This individual has knowledge of general quality control (QC) procedures and be versed in denim wash sustainability processes.

What you'll do

  • The Individual has the ability to translate trends into commercially successful denim product and will drive the newness and innovation of wash development for both the men’s and women’s denim collection within the seasonal timeline.

  • The individual will understand the big picture strategy and alignment needs across categories that support the Brand.

  • Responsible for bringing new ideas to the design table each season while also conducting seasonless, continual research and development.

  • Individual will source seasonal design requests with appropriate vendors and develop to the Pricing Architecture.

  • Partner with design for seasonal direction.

  • Individual will collaborate with other members of the concept and design team to assist in building Trend Concept boards as needed.

  • Partner with production and mill management team for sourcing direction.

  • Partner with R&D to research denim qualities, finishes and washes.

  • Shop all appropriate trade shows, mill weeks and make selections utilizing appropriate brand filters and costing guardrails.

  • Own the organizing of fabric & wash library and maintain R&D ongoing development.

  • Review price/value/AUC targets for all basic programs and align with production and GIS offices.

  • Identify opportunities for competitive sourcing.

  • Responsible for entering chosen fabrics into fabric tracking system (PLM).

  • Ensure product integrity by facilitating the testing of all fabrics prior to placement needs to ensure performance and safety.

  • Individual will source seasonal design requests with appropriate vendors and develop to the Pricing Architecture

  • Partner with design for seasonal direction, identifying repeat qualities and new developments.

  • Individual will collaborate with members of the design team to build Trend Concept boards as needed.

  • Partner with production and mill management team for sourcing direction

  • Own research and development of all fabric until complete and approved by design.

  • Own all counter sourcing of fabrics with the input/advice of production.

  • Review price/value/AUC targets for all basic programs and align with production and GIS offices.

  • Identify opportunities for competitive sourcing.

  • Responsible for entering wash direction into fabric tracking system (PLM).
