Old Navy

January 16, 2020

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once asked the important question, ‘What are you doing for others?’ And, this Monday, the 25th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, we know many Old Navy employees will be taking this question to heart and celebrating the values and teachings of Dr. King by participating in a day of service.

One of our associates who is dedicated to giving back to his community and furthering Dr. King’s mission and legacy is Arness Williams-Beatty, General Manager and District Community Leader in Dallas.  He truly believes that we do more than sell clothes at Old Navy, and has led multiple community involvement events and activities with his district teams to support organizations like Big Brothers/Big Sister’s Lone Star Texas, BGCA of Greater Dallas, Minnie’s Food Pantry and Buckner Children’s home. Many of the programs that Old Navy supports today, were an important part of Arness’s childhood, so it’s important to him to mentor and  give back to the programs that helped shape him and his career.

Arness feels a great sense of responsibility to his local community by using the platform he has at Old Navy and Gap Foundation, to lead with heart and to create a positive impact in his community with his peers.

WHAT’S THE BEST PART ABOUT WORKING ON YOUR TEAM? The best part of working for my team is the feeling of inclusiveness, fun, family and drive to win.

HOW DO YOU HONOR THE LEGACY OF MLK IN YOUR COMMUNITY?   Our work to strengthen our communities can never be done. I consistently roll up my sleeves and help put together meals at the food pantry or educate youth on job readiness.

WHAT’S YOUR MAIN PIECE OF ADVICE FOR OTHERS LOOKING TO GET INVOLVED IN THEIR COMMUNITIES ON MLK DAY? It's easy! There are a ton of community partners that have events during MLK weekend & day. They are always looking for volunteers to lend a hand. Most metro areas put on parades hosted by their parks and recreation centers.

WHAT DOES BELONGING AT OLD NAVY MEAN TO YOU? Belonging at Old Navy means to work with many different people from several different backgrounds with one common goal. It's a family!
