Gap Inc.

September 12, 2017

More than the clothes we create, Gap Inc. is defined by its people. Meet some of the talented people who make Gap Inc. great. #WeAreGapInc

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR GAP INC.?

I serve on the Gap Foundation Board of Trustees.

WHAT MAKES GAP FOUNDATION UNIQUE?

We are truly invested in the programs we fund. It isn’t just a surface level involvement; we deeply care about the people we serve.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE SEEING THE GAP INC. P.A.C.E. PROGRAM IN INDIA?

Seeing the women in the P.A.C.E. India program made the work of the Foundation come alive. It was fascinating to hear individual stories and actually see how P.A.C.E. changed each woman’s life. It made me proud that we’ve created this incredible platform to empower women and help them achieve their full potential.

THIS YEAR MARKS GAP FOUNDATION’S 40TH BIRTHDAY. WHAT INSPIRES YOU ABOUT GAP FOUNDATION’S WORK IN COMMUNITIES?

I believe that through programs like P.A.C.E. and This Way Ahead we can make a better world. That’s inspiring. It’s powerful when communities, our employees and the world can see the difference these programs make every day by empowering youth and women around the globe. But beyond that, I’m inspired by the people who work for the Foundation and Sustainability teams. I appreciate how they push us to continue to do all we can to leave the world better than we found it.

YOUR GRANDPARENTS – DORIS AND DON FISHER – STARTED GAP FOUNDATION BACK IN 1977. HOW HAS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PLAYED A ROLE IN YOUR LIFE?

Community involvement has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It started at a very young age when my dad and I would volunteer at the AIDS Walk. The spirit of giving back has always burned brightly in our family. Through a variety of volunteer experiences, I found my passion - education - and was drawn to the classroom where I taught for five years.

STYLE PERSONALITY

I would call my style casual and comfortable Californian. I love wearing small prints and camouflage. I’m drawn to eclectic pieces that not everyone else has – usually things I pick up while I’m traveling. I always have to ask my sister before I buy anything because she has a much better fashion sense than I do.

GO-TO OUTFIT

Gap jeans, loose top, sneakers.

ALL-TIME FAVORITE PIECE OF CLOTHING

My vintage Banana Republic khaki jumpsuit my brother and sister-in-law found in a vintage store and gifted to me for my 30th birthday.

LAST PURCHASE

My 360 stretch Gap jeans and Powervita Athleta tights.

WHAT YOU’VE LEARNED FROM CUSTOMERS

Be patient and smile a lot!

FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY WITH YOUR GRANDPARENTS

My grandpa used to set up swimming races in the summer and would give us jelly beans if we won.

FIRST JOB

Banana Republic Sales Associate at our San Francisco flagship on Grant Ave.

EPIPHANY MOMENT

I taught 5th graders in NY and SF for five years. My teaching was focused on reading, really trying to get kids excited about it. And honestly, there is nothing quite like seeing that light bulb go off in a child’s head when they finally connect with the words they’re reading on the page.

ALWAYS PUTS YOU IN A GOOD MOOD

Going on a run with my husband or baking with music playing and a glass of wine.

THEME SONG

ABC by the Jackson 5.

SOMETHING PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU

I love to fly fish.
