Super Creative: Gap Designer Nicola Misurelli Talks Wonder Woman

What’s most exciting to you about our Wonder Woman collection?
"This will totally date me, but when I was a kid, the only option for expressing your affinity for Wonder Woman (or any superhero) was to wear Underoos (costume underwear sets). I wore my Wonder Woman ones out!! I’m so thrilled that kids have the opportunity to express themselves with the Gap WW Collection in a truly stylish way. The collection is not 'costumey' at all – it’s made up of incredibly wearable and on-trend, cool pieces."
How does Wonder Woman fit in with Gap’s values?
"Wonder Woman represents strength and justice. She fights to make the world a more peaceful and compassionate place by standing up for what she believes. And for girls, she is one amazing symbol of girl power!!"
What does your team’s creative process look like when creating product using licensing ideas like Wonder Woman? What inspires you?
"First, we meet with our license partners at Warner Bros. / DC Comics to hear all the new and exciting story ideas they are developing for the character. If there is a theatrical release slated for the upcoming year, we want to get all the inside scoop on plot, costume, characters, etc. Then we do our own research into the aesthetic of the character. We look through our library of cool embellishments and techniques to design emotional and inspiring graphics. And finally we work with our partners in Design to put all the ideas for a collection together into amazing outfits!"
What wonder women have inspired you both in life and design?
"Wonder Woman of course!!! I have so many fashion and style icons that inspire me in my work, from the original trailblazing designers like Coco Chanel and Vivienne Westwood, to current game-changers like Phoebe Philo, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Lotta Volkova. Iris Apfel is my spirit animal."
Lastly, if you could have any super power, what would it be?
“Healing anything and anyone power would be my top choice. Endless energy power would help me get everything done though!"
